Matthias R. Horions

Matthias obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the Hasselt University and an MSc. in Human Ecology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). In September 2019, he will hold an additional diploma in Management with minors in Entrepreneurship and North-South cooperation from ICHEC (Brussels).

Matthias is the research management assistant at CRED since May 2018. He assists Director Prof. Debarati Guha-Sapir, and handles logistics at the institute. Additionally, you can contact him for data requests and general problems concerning the EM-DAT database.

Joris van Loenhout

Joris van Loenhout obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences, followed by a MSc in Toxicology and Environmental Health, both at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. From 2007 to 2014, he worked at the department of Environmental Health at the Public Health Service Gelderland-Midden. Within that position, he coordinated several EU-funded projects on environmental health topics, and he also carried out a study on indoor temperature in relation to health of elderly residents. In 2015, he successfully defended his PhD thesis on the long-term health impact of Q fever.

Debarati Guha Sapir

Debarati Guha-Sapir is the Director of CRED and a Professor at University of Louvain School of Public Health, in Brussels, Belgium. She holds an Adjunct Professorship at Tulane University Medical Centre (New Orleans) for Health and Humanitarian Aid. Trained in Calcutta University, Johns Hopkins University and University of Louvain, she has a PhD in epidemiology.
